The Bronte Sisters and why I love my Kobo App

Those who know me, know that I am inseparable from my Crackberry (aka Blackberry Torch 9800), there are many reasons for this but my latest reason is also partly due to the Bronte Sisters.

Charlotte, Emily and Anne Bronte wrote romantic novels in the mid 1800s based loosely on their life experiences, making the feelings and mannerisms true to life and allowing me to dive deeply into a richly woven alternate life while I read their books. I was first hooked by a miniseries of Jane Eyre aired on the ABC back in Australia which lead me to read the book, followed closely by Villette. Now I am chowing through Agnes Grey, The Professor and Shirley.

I get to carry these and many other books with me wherever I go and have them ready at my touch should I find a spare 5 minutes in my busy day to read. The free Kobo App for Blackberry contains millions of books for free, translated through Project Gutenberg. Project Gutenberg is an open source effort by millions of readers who have proofread scans of old texts, correcting them into digital form so that they can be accessible by anyone who can get online. I'd like to thank those of you who contributed, despite the few confusing word placements I come along every now and again.

So if you see me engrossed in my tiny Blackberry screen, I'm not always fervently checking my calendar or catching up on work emails. Sometimes I am stopping to smell the flowers and immersing myself in a world far from my own.
